About

Malachi Records is Benji Garced’s next generation record store specializing in rare LPs, 45’s, 12″ and CDs. Music ranging from ABBA - ZAPPA. Funk, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Rock, Latin and more. Located Downtown, New York City near the Lower East/ Financial District. About 3 blocks from the Seaport.

Benji’s history dates goes back to the early 90s spinning Disco, Soul and Funk playing clubs landing him a place with Motown, promoting early R&B groups. Til finally, his presence in the skate scene made him the legendary Benji of Ultimate Journey Skates. Heard from all over New York, from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and outside the city, skaters of the early 90s flocked to the city buying boards from the then famous Benji’s which started from his apartment and moved to 31 James St. Benji’s would hold events at the Brooklyn Banks created a whirlwind of noise, spinning to a new crowd of music-listening skaters.

By 1993 things started heating up combining skateboards and music together in a records shop on Chambers street. Hard times came about when Malachi past away in a skate board accident. Malachi was a close friend to all of us as well as Benji’s son and the shop closed there after. Ten years later, Benji debuts the newest shop in tribute to him, “Malachi Records” in the end of 2007. Putting his music collection back onto the shelves, which has been sitting in the archives for nearly a decade now sees light again.

If you get a chance, come by to the new shop. Jammed packed with great music. Lots of music, you still can’t find at your music stores or online.
